Itchy Moles - The Four Warning Signs That Tell You If It's Malignant

BySebastian D Erhardt
Unlike skin tags, which are benign growths and warts that may be contagious but generally carry the same characteristics, moles run the risk of being malignant or becoming malignant. There are many different types of moles found on different locations of the body. Facial moles, moles that have hair or hairs, moles that appear flat. Apart from the usual black moles, some can even be red or blood red in color.
Itchy moles are an entirely different story to other kinds of mole. Moles are typically not prone to itching and it is a definite sign of malignancy. Itchy moles are serious and should be given immediate medical attention which will entail either treatment or removal.
One of the main causes for the malignant moles are over exposure to the sun. Those exposed to extended doses of direct sunlight, especially between the hours of 10am to 4pm, are prone to this. You should see your physician who will more than likely refer you to a dermatologist. The dermatologist will take a small tissue sample of the skin around the mole which will then be examined by a pathologist, who will give the prognosis if the mole is indeed malignant, and thus need to be removed.
A self-diagnosis is possible to carry out. Check for abnormalities that are visible to the naked eye, by observing the ABCD warning signs of cancerous symptoms.
Asymmetry - Changes in the itchy mole's shape
Border - Changes in the thickness of the mole's borders
Color - This is the single most major indicator of malignancy to look out for
Diameter - Growth in the mole's length and width
These ABCD's are the 'red alerts' to watch out for if you have an itchy mole. Regardless of your self diagnosis however, you should not find an excuse to avoid seeing your doctor, especially you guys out there.
At this point, relieving the itching of this type of mole is not the answer. Treatment and removal are your best options. It would also be very wise to minimize exposure to the sun in the future. Past exposure may well have brought the onset of this, so be more careful from now on no matter what your complexion is. The best preventive measure at this point would be to consult professional help, and have the itchy mole diagnosed, and removed as soon as possible.
Although you should take action in seeking help from your doctor, please don't worry unduly. Itchy moles are relatively easy to treat in 99% of cases and you will suffer only a little discomfort and inconvenience while getting it removed.
Learn about how to diagnose malignant moles using four basic tests. Find out why an itchy mole should not be ignored but must be treated.
