DIY Facial Massage

When people think about a facial massage, they almost always associate it with health spas and other similar establishments where one can go for a little bit of pampering. Very few people even stop to consider the fact that they can do it themselves, and it is a shame really, since facial massages are immensely beneficial when it comes to controlling the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Admittedly, doing your own massage at home is never going to be quite the same experience as a visit to a luxury spa, but then again, it is not going to cost you anything either. Well, it may cost you a bit, but certainly not much. Another advantage is that you can enjoy a massage every day if you wish. In fact, many women, and an increasing number of men, are giving themselves a facial massage twice a day - once in the morning, and then again in the evenings before going to bed.
The two most important aspects you need to focus on whenever you massage your face, is that you need to use a good oil or similar product, and you need to be gentle. Remember, the skin on your face is significantly more delicate than the skin elsewhere on your body. Also, the oil you use should be 100% free of chemicals, and that includes preservatives and fragrances. You should also choose a cold pressed essential oil since other extraction methods tend to destroy most of the goodness. Cold pressed oils may cost a little bit more, but they really are worth it in the long run.
Once you have your oil ready, and you have washed your hands, neck and face, you are ready to begin. Pour about one teaspoon of oil onto the palm of your one hand, and then rub your hands gently together in order to spread the oil around evenly. Start by massaging your neck, and be sure to use long strokes going from the bottom of your neck all the way up to your jawbone. Continue doing this for at least two or three minutes.
If necessary, put some more oil on your hands, and then using two fingers on each hand, start massaging along your jaw line, once again moving in an upward direction. In other words, each stroke begins at your chin, and ends just below your ears.
Continue doing this to all the different areas of your face, but once you reach the area around your eyes, use even less pressure because the skin in this area is very thin and very fragile. Once you have done your entire face, including your brow, you can rinse you face, unless of course you are using a product which is designed to be left on, such as an all-natural anti wrinkle cream for example.
Once you get the hang of it, a facial massage usually only takes about ten minutes, but of course that is not to say you can't carry on for longer. The same applies to the frequency of your massages. Some experts say once a week is fine, but if you have the time, you can indulge yourself as often as you like. One thing you can be certain of is that you are definitely going to see results, providing of course you make it part of your overall anti aging routine.
