How To Treat Warts: 4 Form Of Treatment For The Effective Removal Of Warts From Your Skin

. Their appearance can resemble a solid blister or a cauliflower. Warts are contagious and they occur when the HPV enters the body through an area of broken skin. There are many different treatments and procedures available to treat warts. Warts can be treated in four ways: 1- Self care at Home, 2- Cryotherapy, 3-Laser Therapy and 4- surgical removal.
Self-Care at Home-
1-Adhesive Tape Therapy- Several layers of waterproof adhesive tape should be placed over the wart region for 6 and 1/2 days. After 6 and 1/2 days the tape should be removed and the wart region should be left open to the air for 12 hours. Again, the tape should be reapplied for 6 and 1/2 days. The tape makes the wart area airtight and moist, virus cannot grow and reproduce in moist environment. This therapy works best for warts in the region around the fingernails.
2-Salicylic Acid Therapy- Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent which removes wart tissue by keratolysis. Salicylic acid preparations are available over the counter in the form of ointment, liquid, pad or gel. The wart should be soaked in warm water for 5 - 10 minutes which enhances the effects of salicylic acid. Then the wart tissue should be pared down with a razor. The salicylic acid preparation should be applied only to the wart tissue. Over-application of these preparations can burn the surrounding normal skin.
A preparation containing 17% salicylic acid and 17% lactic acid can be applied overt the wart tissue everyday after shower. The wart is covered with a water proof tape, after the preparation is dried completely. Next day, the tape should be removed before shower, and the application of salicylic acid preparation should be repeated. Generally, wart falls off in one or two weeks.
Cryotherapy-
The cryosurgery involves freezing of the wart, the liquid nitrogen is used to deep freeze the wart tissue. The liquid nitrogen expands the water in the wart cells which explodes the infected tissue. The body's immune system destroys the virus particles in the exploded cells. The wart and surrounding dead skin falls of by itself. Usually, 3 to 4 cryosurgery treatments are required to remove the wart tissue completely.
Laser Therapy-
Lasers are very intense light sources which has an enormous amount of energy. The laser light heats the wart tissue enough that it vaporizes. In wart treatment, often pulse dye laser or carbon dioxide laser is used. The pulse dye lasers cause healing without scarring and they are less destructive. Where as, carbon dioxide lasers are more destructive and can cause little scarring and it needs local anesthesia or sedation. The pulse dye laser treatment does not need any sedation or local anesthesia. Usually, 2 to 4 laser treatments are required to remove the wart tissue but in extreme cases more sessions are required. Typically, there should be 10 to 14 days gap between the two treatments.
Surgical Removal-
The surgical treatment is indicated when other treatment methods fail. The wart tissue can be excised under local anesthesia. All these procedures, cryosurgery, laser therapy and surgical removal of the warts, are done in a doctor's office.
